Implant-Supported Dentures Melbourne

What would eating be like if your denture never shifted again? By clipping onto a handful of implants rather than resting on the gums, an implant-supported denture holds firm through every meal and every conversation.

How it works

The end of the wandering denture.

An overdenture — the clinical name for an implant-supported denture — fastens onto 2–4 implants set into your jaw rather than sitting loose against the gums. Once clipped on, it holds its position through meals, chats and laughter alike.

Think of it as the middle ground between a conventional denture and All-on-4's fixed bridge: far steadier and far stronger for chewing than a suction-fit plate, yet less of an outlay than a complete fixed arch. According to the design you choose, the overdenture either snaps out for easy cleaning or is secured permanently by your dentist.

Already wearing a denture that mostly serves you well? In many cases it can be adapted to fasten onto implants — something worth raising at your consultation.

The difference implants make

  • Movement stops. Anchored to implants, the denture can't slip mid-sentence or lift as you bite down.
  • The menu opens up. Chewing force rises dramatically compared with a denture held by suction alone.
  • Adhesive becomes redundant. Retention comes from the implants themselves — the tube of paste can go in the bin.
  • A lighter, slimmer fit. Upper overdentures can often leave the palate uncovered, which improves both comfort and taste.
  • Bone stays healthier. Implants keep stimulating the jaw, slowing the shrinkage that loosens ordinary dentures year after year.
Treatment pathway

Five steps to a denture that stays put.

01

Free assessment with CBCT imaging

Your existing denture, gums and bone are examined together, and we design the overdenture approach that fits your situation best.

02

Implants placed

In one visit, 2–4 implants go into the jaw — sedation is available — and your current denture is adjusted so it can stay in use while you heal.

03

Weeks of integration

Over the following weeks the implants fuse with your bone, developing the strength needed to carry your denture securely.

04

Connectors installed

Precision attachments are added to the implants and to your new or converted denture — from then on, it clicks firmly into position.

05

Adjustment and upkeep

We fine-tune the bite and retention until it all feels natural, then keep things in shape with simple ongoing maintenance.

Investment

Priced after your scan, paid your way.

Your quote for implant-supported dentures follows your scan, shaped by how many implants you need and by whether your current denture can be adapted. The investment typically sits well under the cost of a fixed full-arch bridge, and the full range of payment pathways applies: HICAPS claiming, interest-free plans and early release of super* where patients qualify.

Payment plans

Zero-interest humm & Zip plans

Treatment costs can be divided into steady instalments, and approved applicants may pay no deposit at all.

Health funds

Instant claiming through HICAPS

Both clinics process private health fund rebates on the spot, so the gap is all you pay on the day.

Superannuation

Early super access*

Patients who qualify can apply to use super for medically necessary dental care — our team prepares the paperwork that supports the claim.

*Approval rests with the ATO and eligibility criteria apply. Every consultation includes a personalised, itemised quote before treatment commences.

Before you ask

The questions we hear about overdentures.

What number of implants will my denture need?
A lower overdenture usually rests on 2–4 implants, while an upper generally calls for 4 because the bone there is softer. The right count for lasting stability comes out of your CBCT scan.
Could the denture I already own be adapted?
Quite possibly — a well-fitting denture in sound condition can often be reworked to take the implant attachments, which brings the overall cost down.
Does it still come out at bedtime?
If you choose a snap-in design, yes — it's taken out for cleaning, typically each night, though while worn it cannot drift or drop out. A fixed design never comes out at all and is cleaned much like natural teeth.
How does an overdenture compare with All-on-4?
Two different answers to the same problem. An All-on-4 bridge is fixed in permanently and comes closest to the feel of natural teeth; an overdenture costs less and is simpler to keep clean. At your consultation we weigh both against your circumstances.
